How it works
- Download the ZIP from the email Character.AI sent you (from accounts@character.ai). The link expires after 7 days.
- Drop it above and enter the email address it was sent to. That’s the ZIP password.
- Your characters appear with their name, tagline, description, greeting and definition. Copy them into Rochat, download them as character cards, or download them all at once.

Questions
Is my export uploaded anywhere?
No. The ZIP is unlocked and read inside your browser. Your file and your email address never leave your device.
Why does it ask for my email?
Character.AI protects the ZIP with a password: the email address your account uses, in lowercase. We need it to unlock the file on your device, the same way your computer would when you open the ZIP.
Why can’t I see who said what in my chats?
The export lists your chat messages with timestamps, but doesn’t record who sent each one or which character the chat was with. We show them in order and don’t guess.
Why are there characters I don’t recognize?
The export lists the characters your account created, which can include ones you deleted or haven’t opened in a long time.
Already unzipped it?
Drop the character.json file from the data folder instead. You can add message.json and the pictures from the images folder at the same time.
